American Power Conversion (APC) by Schneider Electric, a global leader in uninterruptible power supplies and data center products, has switched its five manufacturing facilities in the Cavite Economic Zone to 100% renewable energy.
The company achieved the sustainability milestone through a renewable energy supply agreement with ACEN RES, the retail electricity unit of the Ayala group, under the Philippine government’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).
The GEOP is a regulatory mechanism established by the Philippine Department of Energy that empowers electricity end-users with an average monthly consumption of at least 100 kilowatts to choose renewable energy as their power source. This initiative allows businesses to directly contract with renewable energy suppliers, bypassing their default distribution utility to meet their sustainability goals. ACEN RES is currently the leading green energy supplier, holding the highest share of the GEOP market at 57%.
The five facilities, primarily engaged in semiconductor manufacturing, have begun the transition to operating entirely on renewable energy in December 2025. The agreement covers the electricity supply for Schneider Electric’s office and production sites, avoiding the equivalent of around 11,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions (tCO2e) annually.
“This collaboration sets in motion our transition to 100% renewable energy at the Cavite Smart Factory — a bold stride in our journey toward Net Zero,” said Antonio Cheng Jr., Plant Director for Cavite Cluster, Schneider Electric Philippines, Inc.
Cheng added that the Cavite Smart Factory is set to become the first facility within a government eco-zone in Luzon and the first Schneider Electric factory in East Asia to operate entirely on renewable energy. “It is a milestone that underscores our commitment to climate action and positions the Philippines as a regional leader in sustainable industrial transformation,” he said.
Eric Francia, President and CEO of ACEN, emphasized the significance of the collaboration. “This partnership with a global sustainability leader like Schneider Electric is a powerful enabler of the renewable energy transition in the Philippines,” he said. “It sends a clear market signal that a 100% renewable energy future is achievable for even complex industrial operations.”
Schneider Electric’s action supports the Philippines’ goals for industrial sustainability and highlights the company’s commitment to climate action on a global scale. By adopting the badge, Schneider Electric communicates its dedication to environmental stewardship to its stakeholders.
In recognition of the move toward decarbonization, ACEN RES awarded Schneider Electric its “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge. The proprietary seal is the first of its kind in the Philippines, publicly recognizing businesses and institutions fully committed to a 100% renewable energy supply. To date, the “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge is installed in close to 100 RE-powered facilities in the Philippines.
