MAKATI CITY, Philippines — Rockwell Residential Towers Condominium Corporation (RRTCC – West Block Towers) has switched to a 100% renewable energy supply through a partnership with ACEN RES, the retail electricity unit of ACEN.
The agreement establishes the property as the first residential community in the Philippines to utilize the government-initiated Retail Aggregation Program (RAP). Under this regulatory framework, individual electricity consumers within a contiguous area can aggregate their power demand to meet the threshold required to enter the retail market and choose their own energy supplier.
Energy Regulatory Commission Director Sharon Montaner recognized the community as the first in the residential sector to go full renewable energy through RAP, marking a precedent for high-density urban developments.
The initial phase of the implementation covers nearly a hundred residential condominium units across the Amorsolo Square, Luna Gardens, Hidalgo Place, and Rizal Towers, with additional units scheduled to join the program. Through this aggregation, ACEN RES will supply the participating units’ power requirements directly from ACEN’s portfolio of solar, wind, and geothermal assets. The transition allows residents to eliminate their indirect emissions from electricity consumption while utilizing existing distribution grid infrastructure.
In recognition of the community’s transition, ACEN RES awarded Rockwell Residential Towers Condominium Corporation (RRTCC) its “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge. The seal is a symbol of distinction for customers opting for 100% renewable energy supply, aimed at communicating advocacy to stakeholders and encouraging other developments to follow suit.
“Enabling residential communities to actively participate in the energy transition is a critical milestone for the retail energy market. By leveraging the Retail Aggregation Program, Rockwell Residential Towers demonstrates that sustainability-conscious residents can unite to turn environmental aspirations into concrete, scalable action. This switch sets a clear, replicable precedent for other residential developments,” said Miguel de Jesus, ACEN Managing Director and Chief Operations Officer for Philippines.
The transition aligns with the estate management objectives of the condominium corporation to integrate scalable sustainability practices into its property operations. By shifting away from conventional grid power mixes, the community reduces its environmental impact while securing long-term supply stability.
“For most of our lives, electricity has felt like something we simply pay for, not something we choose. The Retail Aggregation Program changed that. Today, we did not simply choose a lower rate; we chose renewable energy. With that choice, we chose to have the power that lights our homes, runs our elevators, and powers our amenities coming from cleaner sources—not someday, but starting now,” said Rafael Torres, Chairman, Rockwell Residential Towers Condominium Corporation.
