Makati City, Philippines – First Atkins Holdings Corp. (Atkins), through its subsidiary Atkins Import and Export Resources Inc., has taken a decisive step toward environmental sustainability by transitioning all its cold storage facilities to 100% renewable energy through a partnership with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the retail electricity arm of the Ayala Group.

ACEN RES now powers First Atkins Groups’ five cold storage facilities in Meycauayan, Bulacan, with electricity sourced from ACEN’s portfolio of renewable energy plants, including solar, wind, and geothermal power. This transition is facilitated through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), a government initiative that enables electricity consumers to choose renewable energy sources from their preferred supplier. Strengthening this electric partnership, First Atkins Groups’ Cavite Cold Storage—the largest cold storage facility in South Luzon—is in its initial stages of fully transitioning to ACEN RES. Following this, the soon-to-open First Atkins Nueva Ecija facility will also be powered by ACEN RES.

Based on the latest Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM) published in December 2024 by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), ACEN RES is the leading renewable energy supplier, having the most number of accounts under the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).

In recognition of its full transition to renewables, ACEN RES awarded Atkins its proprietary ”Powered by Renewable Energy” badge. This exclusive seal is granted to businesses and institutions that have shifted to a 100 percent renewable energy supply through ACEN RES. As the first of its kind in the Philippines, the badge is a mark of distinction for companies committed to sustainability. By displaying the badge, Atkins signals its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and advancing environmentally responsible practices.

Tony Valdez, Senior Vice President for Market Transformation at ACEN emphasized ACEN’s commitment to driving the adoption of renewable energy. “At ACEN, the transition to renewable energy is an environmental imperative and a strategic business decision. By partnering with companies like Atkins, we demonstrate that sustainable practices and business growth can go hand-in-hand, creating a brighter future for all.”

Gabriel J. Ang, President and CEO of Atkins, highlighted the company’s sustainability vision: ”Our transition to 100% renewable energy through ACEN RES reflects First Atkins Group’s core values and unwavering commitment to sustainability. We are mindful of the impact of our business decisions and take pride in contributing to a cleaner environment. This partnership enhances our operations and aligns with the increasing demand for environmentally responsible practices.”
