ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the supply retail electricity arm of the Ayala group, renewed its commitment to provide Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Calamba with affordable, reliable, and 100% renewable energy.

In a ceremony held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, in Calamba, Laguna, ACEN RES and Letran representatives signed a retail supply contract enabling the school to continue to source its power from the Ayala-owned retail supplier instead of from the distribution utility operating in its area. Under the agreement, ACEN RES will supply Letran with 100 percent renewable energy, supporting the institution’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy. The partnership was made possible by the government’s retail competition and open access (RCOA) program.

The Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) of 2001 mandated the establishment of the RCOA to give electricity consumers with an average monthly demand of at least 500 kilowatts the option to choose their electricity supplier, and the kind of technology used to generate their power, such as renewables.

Letran’s 11-hectare campus in Barangay Bucal, Calamba, Laguna hosts over a dozen classroom and office buildings, a state-of-the-art information and technology (IT) laboratory, a hyflex (hybrid-flexible) learning facility, and a virtual reality/hologram room providing students an enhanced, technology-aided learning experience.

“With our significant power requirement, we must partner with an energy company with a proven track record of delivering a high quality of service,” explained Rev. Fr. Napoleon M. Encarnacion, O.P., Rector and President of the premier Dominican institution.

“ACEN, being an Ayala company, gives us confidence that it can fulfill its commitments. Moreover, its push for renewable energy resonates with our advocacy since we are also mindful of our environmental impact being a progressive and Catholic educational institution,” he added.

“It’s an honor for us to be the preferred electricity supplier of Letran, an institution committed to the holistic development of the next generation of Filipino leaders and citizens who are socially and environmentally responsible. It aligns with our advocacy for renewable energy (RE) and our goal to encourage more businesses to transition to RE and help preserve our shared planet,” said Ela Mina, AVP for Commercial Operations and Head of Account Management of ACEN RES.

ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) is the supply retail electricity unit of the Ayala Group.
