Seafood manufacturer SeaKing opened a new facility in Malabon powered exclusively by renewable energy supplied by ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), the supply retail electricity unit of the Ayala Group.
The sprawling production complex has state-of-the-art equipment that can process export-quality sashimi, apart from salmon and Bangus (milkfish) products, which the company is known for locally.
“We thank SeaKing for choosing ACEN RES as its partner in renewable energy, which we have been advocating since 2016. While SeaKing provides seafood on our tables, ACEN supports renewable energy from sun and wind,” noted ACEN Philippines Chief Operating Officer Miguel de Jesus.
ACEN recently announced its target of 20 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030, making it the largest in the country.
“We have a roadmap to build solar and wind energy capacity to support the government’s goal of achieving at least 35 percent share of renewables in the energy mix by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040,” said de Jesus.
SeaKing’s opening of the new facility is a testament to the company’s growth from its humble beginnings more than 23 years ago. Started by four Chinese-Filipino siblings from the kitchen of their home, SeaKing now sells its products in all major grocery stores in the country. It also exports to countries in the Middle East, Europe, and North America with a significant population of Filipinos.
“We were looking for ways to reduce our electricity costs and learned about the Green Energy Option Program. The timing was perfect,” shared Jennifer Uy-Ampon, president of J2NS Property Development, Inc. and Superb Catch, Inc., the companies behind the SeaKing brand.
“We were already negotiating with another supplier when we came across ACEN RES. We were happy with its proposal, which was overall better than our previous supplier’s, and of course, the Ayala brand of trust. Additionally, we are aligned with our customers who are also conscious of sustainability,” she added.
ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES) is the supply retail electricity unit of the Ayala Group. It is a licensed retail electricity supplier and renewable energy solutions provider powering businesses and industries through the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) and the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP).
