ACEN RES of the Ayala Group to provide 100% Renewable Energy in 33 PLDT facilities

20 March 2024 – Telecommunications giant PLDT Inc. (PLDT) partnered with ACEN RES, the retail electricity supply unit of the Ayala group, to switch 33 facilities to 100% renewable energy. This move supports PLDT’s decarbonization roadmap, which includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions replacing its use of fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. It also underscores its commitment to the United Nation’s Sustainability Development Goals.

“Our switch to renewable energy is not only about achieving efficiency or meeting targets. As we all increasingly feel the worsening impacts of climate change, we need to accelerate action and turn these challenges into profound opportunities to work together towards a better future for our planet, our children, and their children,” said PLDT Chief Sustainability Officer Melissa Vergel de Dios. “Partnering with ACEN RES to transition our facilities to renewable energy is a significant step towards achieving our sustainability goals. We thank ACEN RES for this collaboration for an energy-secure, sustainable, and digital future,” Vergel de Dios added.

Among the 33 facilities now using renewable energy is the PLDT-Smart Integrated Operations Center (IOC) in Makati City, a two-storey cutting-edge facility housing the group’s network teams. Equipped with top-tier network monitoring and multimedia conferencing facilities, among others, the IOC is seen to enhance PLDT and Smart’s capability to deliver world-class, leveled-up services.
